This is fun ❤️ Thanks so much for the shout out @makeupdotcom … I always loved this makeover. If I wasn’t growing my bangs out I would go for this myself. When you get out of quarantine are you wanting a makeover? And if so what are you going to do? Color? Chop it all off? My head I’m going to grandma and long with no bangs and part it in the center super 70s style. And one and then I’m going to tattoo my arms with beautiful flowers by female tattoo artists. I might even do something wild like put my nose ring back in. 🙂 Dying to hear what you guys are going to do. Happy Thursday ❤️ I just finished my final tutorial. My client came in with a short platinum bowl cut and I helped her trim around her ears and de-bulk her bangs a little bit. I helped her whisk away her neck hairs. We talked about what would look cute as it starts to grow and what I thought would look great on her face shape and her head shape. I spent a bunch of time teaching her how to use the little feather razor to clean up around her ears and if anything started to get chunky she could gently remove some weight. Just a little lesson in upkeep. She felt so much better and cleaner which is nice. I know the feeling as a person who’s growing out my pixie but there is nothing worse than the hair getting bulky. anyway that’s my update… I feel proud and now I’m going to take a little break and work on some new stuff. If you would like to know what’s happening with me and what I will be offering please add yourself to my email list. this is a picture of Priscilla @artichoke_me We also did a lot of weight removal which released her wave and her texture. It might be one of my favorite shags I’ve ever cut. Mostly because of the way I opened her face up to accentuate her crazy, wild cheekbones and eyes. I have fun watching Priscilla‘s hair grow as I cut all of the little framers around her face pretty short like an undercut. As they grow out they turn into little face framing tendrils. I’ve just been looking through all my old work and this is still one of my favorites. Anyway I hope you guys are doing well out there hanging in there and making decisions based on safety first. Priscilla’s hair in this picture has been cleansed with New Wash like most of my wavy hair or curly haired clients. Then I put about a dime size of hair balm in my hands and rubbed it all into the ends for separation and texture. Both of these are available with the link in my bio as you know. Thank you for your love and support. XO Jayne . . . #edosalon #effortlesshair #hairstory #jaynematthews #shag #shaghaircut #lahair #lahairstylist #organichair

I had the pleasure of meeting Los Angeles musician @julianneglass on Sunday. A fellow sensitive ♋️ cancer we talked a lot about her face shape and exactly the right place for her and her new bangs and layers to hit. She definitely did not want a mullet but she also did not just want face framing and layers. Some thing between a rocker cut with a little bit of a French twist to it. We cleansed it with new wash an added lots of undressed spray before I diffused it very easily. This was a really fun class to teach and I really feel that she looks amazing both ways but the bangs absolutely bring out her cheekbones in the greatest way. Such a pleasure to share my love of framing bone structure organically and eco-friendly product to help it just live effortlessly where it should. Thank you so much for trusting me! And thank you to everyone who attended and watched me do this haircut ❤️ . . #shaghaircut #jaynematthews #edosalon #shag #curtainbangs #oaklandhair #lahairstylist #bohemianhair

Classic razor cut French bob from my first bob class yesterday. Cut blunt with lots of hairline detailing and deep interior weight removal to create a square shape but not too full. She had TONS of hair in back and very fine hair in front. Blunt bangs with a tiny corner lift to accentuate her brow line. I styled this using @hairstorystudio Powder for volume and balm all through the ends for separation. Thank you all for joining my virtual class eduction series. ❤️ it’s so fun to see all the stories and all of you out there cutting your own little French bobs today. It really lifts my spirits to be able to connect with you all. Thank you to my amazing, woman owned, education agency @theleftbraingroup For all of the support and helping me feel confident to share. Good morning and sweet Monday to you. Before and after of how texture can change from a cut and the right product❤️ I’ve spent the last two weeks hustling like somehow I could be some sort of voice for stylists telling them to shut their shops, go inside, embrace our new virtual reality, and help their clients with their hair in a new way….scrolling like crazy through old videos to give you guys some kind of material to enjoy looking at. Today I kind of hit the wall and decided it’s time for me to hang the art on my walls of this condo loft we moved into almost 6 months ago now. It’s time to buy a bigger rug for my floor because it doesn’t feel cozy and it turns out we are hanging out at home a lot these days. It’s time to sew the buttons that have fallen off my clothing. Six months ago we lost everything we owned when our house was environmentally contaminated. So I don’t have a lot of junk to get rid of but this might be a good time to think about the things I might want to replace. Like the sewing machine I lost. It was my grandmothers. Her name is Sylvia and I named my daughter after her. Are used to make dresses and all kinds of fun things to wear. Imagine the costumes I could be sewing for my daughter right now? The pandemic has me really scared and if I sit still for a second I will start looking at the news or reading about young people who died suddenly in the night from lack of oxygen. After seeming totally healthy the day before. I’m completely scared. My brain instantly goes to creative ideas and wanting to do something I’m good at. So tonight I decided to get over myself and I reached out to a painter I love @anne_siems_art and I hired her to be my teacher. I’m going to have art tutorials once a week. I’ve been giving tutorials for money and now I can give money for tutorials. I’ve been working hard for long time and maybe now I could hire a teacher to teach me something new. I don’t know if I will share ever when I paint or draw but I’m excited to be a student. when we have properly snuffed out this virus I’m going straight to New York and taking classes from my favorite hairstylists. A shag I cut in Nashville exactly a year ago. It was also the day I met my friend @brianhickman1 If you are interested in my story, how I became who I am, where I came from, ect… he interviewed me yesterday on his Instagram. I’ve never told my childhood history etc. before it was pretty fun. Feeling grateful for all the cool people I’ve been able to meet on this amazing hair journey. I styled this cut using new wash ( never shampoo), salt spray on the roots, and balm on the ends. Link in bio.. . I woke up feeling a little bit depressed today and frustrated that I can’t see people and use my hands. That one comes in waves. I’m also proud of my state of California in the bay area where I live for being the first county in the country to be mandated to shelter in place and the first state in the country to do the same. Because of that we have actually succeeded and flattening our curve and I woke up with the news that our governor was sending ventilators and protective gear to other states to help their hospitals. I am one of those people that has a pre-existing lung condition and a chronic cough and asthma. During this time I’ve had dreams of being underwater and not being able to get any air in. I know what that feels like and my heart goes out to all of the people that might be experiencing that across the world right now. I am beyond grateful to be inside my home and breathing freely today. I just wanted to say that if you are out there and you are struggling I am sending you prayers. I’m not just a girl on Instagram trying to post hair… it feels quite frivolous. But it helps me stay afloat and be a positive voice. huge amounts of love to all of you. Morning! I’m feeling so excited to be starting work today at @edosalonandgallery for the first time since my accident. Just a 1/2 day but my heart is thrilled. We also just made a date for my virtual workshop teaching my first signature shag. It’s really more like shaggy layers. Basically I teach how to carefully carve petals into the hair to remove unwanted heavy straight pieces and set whatever waves are hiding in there free. I also focus on adding volume to the crown and framing the face in a way that makes the best features pop. My first two workshops sold out extremely quickly. I’m working on lots of education coming so I have a whole evolved program. Big love to you all can’t wait to share some work. this hair was cleansed with new wash original formula. Are used a ton of salt spray at the roots to create the crown volume that goes with the cut. Almost all the way air dried with a little bit of hair balm on the ends. All eco-friendly clean air products. . . #jaynematthews #edosalon #shaghaircut #shag #curtainbangs

OK! I thought I’d get back to adding my work to the sea of beautiful hair pictures out there. It’s amazing that my hands are working after my accident but I’m laid up on my back and I have one of my clients as my nanny. All I’m dying to do is reach over and start French braiding her hair or touching it. I was also just about to do my first backyard cut on her and give her a pixie cut from pretty long. Anyway here’s a beautiful 60’s inspired shag I didn’t Austin back in Oct. Her amazing supple texture and wave came out from a combination of my removing weight and the New Wash and balm I used. There is also loads of salt spray in her crown to give her that extra lift. I still have my 20% off discount code on my website if you guys want to try. I keep having dreams I’m doing hair all kinds of huge curly disco type things. I can’t wait to touch your little waves and flips again. Even though I am laying flat on my back. My spirits are up and today is a good day. ❤️ Xo, Jayne . . . #edosalon #shaghaircut #bardotbangs #curtainbangs #bangs #shag #jaynematthews

Education fundraiser! I will be having a few fundraisers ( haircuts coming) but this first one is for hairstylists. For the past two years I’ve been traveling the country teaching sold out classes razor cutting and hand styling and framing faces. Many hairstylist asked if I ever to internships or if I would ever do a one on one day with them. I’ve decided to raffle off three one on one days with three hairstylists. During this day I will teach you my technique of cutting hair, you will complete a full makeover on your own, we work on hand styling (put down the curling iron!), I will teach you photography skills with your IPhone,. You will leave excited to share your work on Instagram and feel more empowered as a creative. 100% of the proceeds for this raffle will go to the foundation @blackfutureslab who are tackling multiple issues: racial justice, voting rights, economic justice, and more. They are led by Alicia Garza (co-founder of Black Live Matter). Hairstylists out there, the winners of this raffle… I will give you my everything. The goal is to raise as much money as possible in the next seven days for this cause. Thank you fir joining me in this effort! All information is linked in my bio.
